This is a simple, fun, creative Autumn activity to do with your children. The Red tree is a picture you can help your children do for themselves and the one on the black background is a display board where each child painted/glittered different sizes/colours/shapes of leaves and then, we put all of them together to create an Autumn Tree Display Board.
I totally love autumn as it is full of colours and there are so many activities you can do by simply collecting natural material from your garden or from a walk in the park.
To create an autumn glittery tree, you follow these steps:
- collect leaves of different colours/sizes and shapes and you can put them to press and dry for a week, or you can start working with them straight away. If you press them for a week, when you work with them they will remain straight and if you choose to work with them straight away, they will crease as you can see in my two pictures.
- leave the children to paint some of the leaves with paint that resembles Autumn colours
- offer some PVA glue mixed with a bit of water, let the children cover the surface of the leaves with it
- give your kids some grounded coffee to sprinkle on them, scrap paper, glitter, corn seeds or other seeds and sequins.
- leave the leaves to dry for 1,2 days, depending on the room temperature.
- paint the trunk of a tree or cut out a trunk of a tree from a brownish paper and start gluing the dried glittery/painted leaves, using lots of glue, as the leaves are heavy because of the sequins or seeds and they will fall off if they are not stuck properly.
- you can glue some peanut shells or conkers in the tree or at the bottom of the tree, a squirrel maybe
- if you are making a board, you can staple each leaf on the tree
Enjoy!
