I’ve done this activity with 2.5 years old and they had great fun! We discussed about brushing teeth and we made this art piece, underlining the fact that we have top teeth that need to be brushed, too!!! This collage can be also used when talking about diversity (different types of skin), or about parts of our body.
- first you draw a big face (you can choose between white, brown or yellowish paper depending on the child’s skin colour), draw eyes, nose and a large smiley mouth
- then you cut some small pieces of paper which are supposed to be the teeth and you can ask your child: ‘where are we gonna glue the teeth?’, etc
- for hair you can use some string, wool, cut in about 10 cm long, you glue it on the head and after that you can paint it the colour your child has his hair
- rosy cheeks – your option
You can blue tack the picture in the bathroom and talk through your child when brushing his/her teeth.
If you want, you can sing a brushing teeth song on the tune of Row, Row, Row Your boat:
Brush brush, brush your teeth
Morning and night
Brush ’em, brush ’em, brush until
they’re shiny clean and bright!
Enjoy!
